BMI Remembers Latin Music Producer/Songwriter Xtassy
BMI is saddened by the death of multitalented producer/songwriter/DJ, Xtassy, who passed away at the age of 37. Born Juan Alfonso Abreu in the Dominican Republic, the aspiring musician moved to New York City at the age of 12 and went on to become one half of the monumentally successful production duo, A&X (Alcover and Xtassy). The pair produced hits for artists like Romeo Santos, Carlos Vives, Henry Santos, Selena Quintanilla (2012 tribute album), Magic Juan, Fulanito, Fuego, Natti Natasha, Taboo (Black Eyed Peas), and Pitbull, among many others. They are renowned for their massive reggaeton smash, “Danza Kudoro” by Don Omar, featuring Lucenzo, as well as popular tracks including “Pura Vida” and “La Vida Es Un Carnaval” for which Xtassy won a BMI Award.
Alongside Alcover, Xtassy won the Producer of the Year award at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards. He also earned a nomination for Best Urban Music Album at the 2012 Latin GRAMMY awards, among other accolades.
Xtassy will be missed by his friends and fans at BMI.
