BMI Remembers Rich Homie Quan
BMI was very saddened to learn of the death of Rich Homie Quan, who passed away September 5 at the age of 34 in Atlanta. Born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, the rapper/songwriter was a pivotal force in Atlanta’s hip-hop community as both a solo artist and as a member of Birdman’s supergroup, The Rich Gang. Starting in the 2010s, Rich Homie Quan made an indelible impression with a string of Billboard Hot 100 hits like “Type of Way,” YG’s “My Hitta,” Rich Gang’s “Lifestyle,” “Walk Thru,” “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” “Ride Out,” and Lil Dicky’s “Save Dat Money.” He was honored by BMI with a No.1 Dinner in 2015, earned three BMI Awards and delivered an electrifying performance of “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” at the 2016 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.
Throughout his career, Rich Homie Quan worked alongside names such as Gucci Mane, Trinidad James, 2 Chainz, Migos, T.I., Lil Uzi Vert, and others. At the time of his death, he was working on new music.
Rich Homie Quan will be deeply missed by his friends, fans and family at BMI.
