BMI is extremely proud to welcome beloved salsa legend Willie Colón to the BMI family. Hailing from the South Bronx, Colón has blazed a trail over the course of half a century in the music industry, not only as a singer/songwriter, but also as a trombonist, composer, arranger and producer. His distinctive sound fuses elements of jazz and rock into traditional salsa, seamlessly blending the infectious rhythms of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Africa. Colón’s multicultural style has enriched contemporary Latin music as a whole, and he has been recognized with myriad honors, including a Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY in 2004 and a citation by Billboard magazine, in 2015, as being one of the 30 Most Influential Latin Artists of All Time. In addition to his monumental body of work, Colón has been a tirelessly outspoken social activist, engaging in local New York City politics and public service.

Please join us in welcoming Colón into the BMI family.
