BMI Brings Out Multi-Platinum HitMakers for ‘Producer Talk Panel’

BMI’s LA office hosted a ‘BMI Producer Talk’ panel on Wednesday, August 17, for an enthusiastic crowd. Moderated by radio host and media personality, Abby De La Rosa, the panel featured hit-making producers Andrew “Pop” Wansel and Warren “Oak” Felder of Pop & Oak (Alicia Keys, Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj), Dwayne “Dem Jointz” Abernathy (Dr. Dre, Janet Jackson, Schoolboy Q), Brandon “Donut” Bell (Jeremih, Justin Beiber, Tamar Braxton), Will “Cook Classics” Lobban-Bean (Natalie La Rose, Kevin Gates, Lil’ Wayne), and Jahaan Sweet (Kehlani, Ty Dolla $ign, Fabolous). The lively discussion focused on the periods before, during, and after the creative process, and included topics such as reaching out to artists they want to work with, being present in the studio with the artist versus sending tracks to them, and the business side of being a producer. In addition, the panelists discussed the pros and cons of production teams, producers versus beatmakers publishing deals, PROs, and business teams.
