WORKSHOPS

BMI Songwriting Workshop: New York

The eight-week workshop is taught by renowned BMI songwriter Billy Seidman and is designed to help writers hone their skills by focusing on music composition, lyric writing, music theory and production/arrangement techniques. The class will feature constructive feedback, stimulating assignments and content developed specifically for this workshop.

When: Starting September 25th and ending on November 20th (no class November 13th), from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
Where: BMI’s New York office (7 World Trade Center/250 Greenwich Street, 30th Floor).
Fee: Free

Jason Blume Songwriting Workshop: Nashville

BMI’s popular Songwriters’ Workshop Series in Nashville is held monthly under the tutelage of hit songwriter and best-selling author Jason Blume.

When: August 27, September 10, October 1, 2013, November 19 (and more!) 12:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Where: BMI’s Nashville offices (10 Music Square East, Nashville, TN) Who: Aspiring songwriters

BMI 101 Workshop: Los Angeles

BMI 101 is a one-hour introductory workshop for writers and publishers, covering the history of performing rights, the origins of BMI, and the current role that BMI plays in the music business. When: August 22, 2013, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Where: BMI’s Los Angeles office - 8730 Sunset Blvd., 3rd Floor West

BMI 101 Workshop: New York

BMI Partners With Silverstein Properties for 7@7 Summer Concert Series in NYC

Broadcast Music, Inc. is proudly partnering with New York real estate company Silverstein Properties, Inc. to host 7@7, the third annual concert series of free summer music performances in downtown Manhattan. The music festival will take place on seven Fridays from July 12 through August 23 at 12:00 p.m., with an eclectic lineup of talented performers taking to the BMI stage in the park in front of Silverstein Properties’ headquarters at 7 World Trade Center (250 Greenwich St.).

CONTESTS

American Songwriter Lyric Contest

The American Songwriter Amateur Lyric Contest takes place six (6) times per year in conjunction with each issue of American Songwriter published.

Fee: $15 per lyric
Who: Contest is open to entrants in all countries.
Prize: First place winner receives a first class Gibson Guitar and a Shure SM58 Microphone.

John Lennon Songwriting Contest

The John Lennon Songwriting Contest is an international songwriting contest launched in 1997.

Fee: $30 per song
Who: Contest is open to amateur and professional songwriters in any one of 12 categories.
Prize: Prizes are awarded for different levels of achievement, such as Finalist, Grand Prize, Lennon Award and Song of the Year.
