The Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) recently hosted an evening of discussion with FX composers, which included BMI affiliates Mac Quayle, Mychael Danna and Jeff Danna. The event was held on June 8 at the Lynwood Dunn Theater in Los Angeles, and was moderated by SCL Board member Lynn F. Kowal. Quayle elaborated on his scoring process for FX network hit shows American Horror Story: Hotel, featuring Lady Gaga; and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, which stars Cuba Gooding Jr. and John Travolta. The Danna brothers discussed the process of scoring as a team for FX’s network drama Tyrant, elaborating on the various instruments used to capture the most authentic Middle Eastern sounds in coordination with the drama’s filming location.
