BMI Congratulates its GRAMMY Nominees
Broadcast Music, Inc. writers have a lot to celebrate following the announcement of the 2015 GRAMMY nominations. The winners will be revealed during the 57th annual GRAMMY awards, held in the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast live February 8, 2015 on CBS. BMI writers are present in nominations for a wide range of genres, including Hunter Hayes and Carrie Underwood in country, John Legend and Taylor Swift in pop and Eminem in rap.
Many BMI songwriters garnered multiple nominations, including Best New Artist nominee Sam Smith, who pulled in an astounding six nominations, counting notable categories Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year for “Stay With Me (Darkchild Version),” along with Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year for In the Lonely Hour. Top writers Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and Jack White pulled in an impressive four nominations each. Church is up for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his work with Keith Urban on “Raise ‘Em Up,” in addition to Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song for “Give Me Back My Hometown,” the single off the Best Country Album nominee, The Outsiders. Lambert’s album Platinum is also a contender for Best Country Album, which featured the Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song nominated track “Automatic” and the Best Country Duo/Group Performance nominee “Somethin’ Bad,” featuring Carrie Underwood. White’s “Lazaretto” is nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, off Lazaretto, a Best Alternative Music Album nominee. His work on The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records, Volume One (1917–27) pulled in a nomination for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recipients are the Bee Gees, Buddy Guy, Flaco Jiménez, the Louvin Brothers and Wayne Shorter — all impressive BMI songwriters. The Trustees Award honorees are Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.
