BMI is honored to congratulate Alaskan composer John Luther Adams on winning the 2014 Pulitzer Prize in Music. His orchestral work “Become Ocean,” commissioned by the Seattle Symphony last year, evokes the landscape of the waters of the Pacific Northwest, and was described by the Pulitzer board as “a haunting orchestral work that suggests a relentless tidal surge, evoking thoughts of melting polar ice and rising sea levels.” Also known for his widely performed composition “Inuksuit,” among many others, Adams is inspired by nature as a fundamental theme in all of his work, and is a dedicated environmentalist.

“Become Ocean” will be performed at Carnegie Hall by the Seattle Symphony on May 6, as part of this year’s Spring for Music series.
