The legendary rock band Kansas marked its 40th anniversary recently (8/17/13) with a special concert for its fans at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh. BMI was on hand to present Million-Air Awards to some of the band members for their role in penning hits that have become heritage classic rock songs and have received millions of spins on the radio. Two Million-Air certificates were presented to Steve Walsh, Robby Steinhardt and Phil Ehart for “Point of Know Return,” while Kansas founding member, Kerry Livgren, received three and four Million-Air certificates for “Carry On Wayward Son” and five and six Million-Air awards for “Dust in the Wind.”

Kansas began the concert backed by a 35-piece orchestra and then followed with a traditional rock band second set. Pittsburgh is credited as being one of the first cities to support the band.
