On February 6 in New York, BMI hosted the book release party for “This Business of Urban Music: A Practical Guide to Achieving Success in the Industry, from Gospel to Funk to R&B to Hip-Hop,” written by entertainment attorney James L. Walker. Walker’s book, touted as a guide to the urban entertainment industry, focuses on the fundamentals of entertainment law from an urban music perspective. “If you are a songwriter or publisher, executive or artist, this book is a good tool for you to understand the business of urban music,” states Big Jon Platt, President, West Coast Creative for EMI Music Publishing.

Walker, who serves as managing partner of Walker and Associates, LLP, has a practice that includes litigation, intellectual property, business and corporate law. He has represented Academy Award-winning actor/recording artist Jamie Foxx; BET star/host Dr. Bobby Jones; Grammy Award winner Yolanda Adams; film director Bill Duke; The Source Magazine; and been an active participant in many BMI-sponsored music business panels.
