BMI IPEC Filing Aids Government Intellectual Property Enforcement Strategy
The White House has undertaken a landmark effort to develop a coordinated multi-agency intellectual property strategy that builds on the knowledge and expertise of the copyright community, including BMI and other agencies charged with enforcing intellectual property rights. By committing to common goals, the government hopes to more effectively and efficiently combat intellectual property infringement in the United States and around the world. In its request for comments, the government, through the office of the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC), invited public input and participation from songwriters, composers and other members of the creative community in shaping an effective intellectual property enforcement strategy.
Prior to making its filing, BMI senior executives met with Victoria Espinel, President Obama’s appointee to the IPEC post, to discuss BMI’s position on various intellectual property issues and provide input on developing new, more effective means of enforcement. BMI is also a signatory to comments filed by the Copyright Alliance, which provide a global view of the issues facing copyright. The Copyright Alliance has also provided a summary of IPEC filings by other supporters of intellectual property protections, providing a broad overview of the topic.
BMI’s IPEC filing, made on March 24, 2010, is now available for download.
