BMI Mourns the Loss of Jazz Composer and Educator David Baker

BMI is saddened by the loss of GRAMMY-nominated BMI affiliate and NEA Jazz Master David Baker, who passed away March 26, at the age of 84. An accomplished composer with more than 1000 works, Baker was also a Pulitzer Prize nominee and “Indiana Living Legend,” as well as an ardent educator who founded the Jazz Studies program at Indiana University. He also co-founded the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, and taught and performed as a revered cellist throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Baker will be sadly missed by his friends and fans at BMI.
