BMI presented its annual “Don’t Knock the Rock” roundtable on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Cinefamily theater in Los Angeles, to discuss music in film, TV and new media. Expert panelists included BMI Vice President, Film/TV Relations, Doreen Ringer-Ross, directors Allison Anders (Grace of My Heart, Strutter, Gas Food Lodging), James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, Smashed, Off The Black, The End Of The Tour), Denny Tedesco (The Wrecking Crew), music supervisor Tiffany Anders (Like Crazy, Kaboom, Smashed), Danny Bramson (music supervisor for Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, Jerry McGuire and producer of Jimi: All Is By My Side) and composer Miriam Cutler (American Promise, Kings Point, Band Of Sisters).

Moderated by Michael Des Barres, host of the Michael Des Barres Show, Little Steven’s Underground Garage on Sirius, the chat covered timely topics including strategies for securing song placement in film and television and new media, song clearance and other licensing concerns, music supervisors’ resources for song discovery and scoring for film and TV.
