BMI Presents “Music & Film” Roundtable and Snowball Showcase at Sundance
BMI’s 15th annual Composer/Director Roundtable and 11th annual Snowball showcase will take place Wednesday, January 23, during the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
Entitled “Music & Film: The Creative Process,” the roundtable will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. at the Sundance House. The conversation will be moderated by Doreen Ringer Ross, Vice President, Film/TV Relations. BMI’s roundtable is a cornerstone event at Sundance, focusing on the relationship between composer and director. Participants will discuss what goes into creating a successful film score, the ingredients of an effective composer/director relationship, the Sundance film experience, and more.
Panelists include composer Abel Korzeniowski and director Randy Moore of “Escape From Tomorrow”; composer Miriam Cutler and director Michele Stephenson of “American Promise”; composer Ilan Eshkeri and director Jerusha Hess of “AUSTENLAND”; composer Ludwig Goransson and director Ryan Coogier of “Fruitvale”; composer Mark degli Antoni and director Roger Ross Williams of “God Loves Uganda”; composer Gary Lionelli and director Robert Stone of “Pandora’s Promise”; composer Marco D’Ambrosio and director Jacob Kornbluth of “Inequality for All”; composer Craig Wedren and director Jill Soloway of “Afternoon Delight”; composer Lili Haydn and director Freida Lee Mock of “Anita”; composer Dustin O’Halloran and director Drake Doremus of “Breathe In”; composer Craig Richey and director R.J. Cutler of “The World According to Dick Cheney”; composer Rob Simonsen and director James Ponsoldt of “The Spectacular Now”; composer Mark Isham and director George Tillman, Jr. of “The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete”; composer and Sundance lab advisor Blake Neely; and composer and Sundance Institute Film Music Program Director Peter Golub.
The Snowball, also to be held on Wednesday, January 23 at the Sundance House, will include performances by Grammy Award-winners John Paul White of The Civil Wars (who appears in the music documentary “Muscle Shoals”), Terence Blanchard and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Percy Sledge, singer songwriter Dan Penn and keyboardist Spooner Oldham (all of whom appear in the documentary “Muscle Shoals”.) The focus of the 2013 Snowball is to celebrate the documentary “Muscle Shoals,” premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 26. In short, “Muscle Shoals” is a must see that focuses on the incredible story of this town from which an incredible amount of hits emanated that changed the world.

The Snowball will be held at Sundance House presented by HP (638 Park Avenue -corner of Main St. and Heber Ave.) Performances are slated to begin at 8:00 p.m. on January 23. The Snowball is open to badge holders on a first come, 21 and up on a first serve basis.
