BMI @ SXSW: 9 Questions with MIDNIGHT RIOT

Posted in Blog on March 8, 2011

What’s the name of the first song you ever wrote?
The first song that the band wrote was “Illusion,” our first track on our EP.

If you could only name one favorite songwriter, who would that be?
There are so many great songwriters, the band can’t choose only one.

Use just one word to describe your own songwriting style:
Our songwriting style is collaborative. Someone brings in an idea and everyone else has their own input or style and makes it “Midnight Riot.”

What’s the one thing you can’t go to Austin without doing?
You cannot go to Austin without visiting Home Slice pizza. That was the band’s diet during our recording sessions and it’s always a treat to go back there.

Who do you most want to hear at SXSW?
We’d love to go hear the local band, Speak.

What’s your favorite venue to play?
We really enjoyed our experience at Dirty Dog during the bMUSEd Battle of the Bands.

What YouTube clip best represents you?
We feel this performance of “Party in the Alleyway” at the Gibson Guitar Showroom for FOX 7’s My Band Rocks FOX best represents us:
YouTube

Name five songs you wish you’d written…
1) Amanda: Florence + The Machine – “Drumming Song”
2) Austin: Green Day – “Jesus of Suburbia”
3) Kyle - Phoenix – “Armistice”
4) Dylan: Bon Iver – ‘Skinny Love”
5) Zak: Strata – “Peace by Peace”

If you had to compose only one Tweet of advice for bands trekking to SXSW, what would it be?
Bring bandaids… lots of bandaids. (Inside joke! We have a member who always cuts his finger at gigs)
