BMI Writers Continue Their Trend With Multiple GRAMMY Nominations
Live from Nashville and televised on CBS, the 55th Annual GRAMMY Award nominations were announced at a star-studded concert Wednesday evening, December 5th. This is the first time that the nominations have been announced in Music City, confirming the town’s validity as a vibrant music center for all genres of music. The voting members of The Recording Academy also had some reaffirming news for BMI writers who claimed the most nominations for some of the biggest awards. In fact all five of the Best New Artist nominees: Alabama Shakes, Fun., Hunter Hayes, The Lumineers, and Frank Ocean are BMI writers. And accordingly, 5 of the 6 Record of the Year nominees: The Black Keys, Fun., Gotye, Frank Ocean, and Taylor Swift are BMI writers; 4 of the 5 nominations for Album of the Year: The Black Keys, Fun., Frank Ocean, and Jack White are BMI writers; and in the Song of the Year category BMI writers are credited on 4 of the 5 nominations: Ed Sheeran for “The A Team;” Josh Ramsay (SOCAN/BMI) for “Call Me Maybe;” Jörgen Elofsson (STIM) and Ali Tamposi for “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You;)” and Jack Antonoff and Jeff Bhasker for “We Are Young.”
That translates to 6 nods each to BMI members Dan Auerbach, Fun., Frank Ocean, and Kanye West; five nods each to The Black Keys and Chick Corea; and four nods each to Jeff Bhasker and Nas.
