BMI Writers Sweep 2015 CMA Nominations
BMI songwriters have once again completely dominated the CMA nominations, with nods across all of the categories. Leading the pack with the most nominations are Eric Church and Little Big Town, each with an astounding five. Church’s nominations include Male Vocalist; Single of the Year for “Talladega”; Song of the Year for “Like A Wrecking Ball,” which he wrote with fellow BMI songwriterCasey Beathard; Musical Event of the Year for “Raise ‘Em Up” with Keith Urban, who is also a BMI writer; and Church’s first nod for Entertainer of the Year, bringing him a total of 17 nominations since his first nod in 2011 for New Artist of the Year.
Little Big Town, which is a three-time CMA Vocal Group of the Year winner, has been nominated in the category every year since 2006 and received a nomination again this year. Adding to their list of 21 total nominations are also this year’s possible crown for Single of the Year for “Girl Crush”; Album of the Year for Pain Killer; Musical Event of the Year with fellow BMI writer Miranda Lambert for “Smokin’ and Drinkin’”; and Music Video of the Year for “Girl Crush.” “Girl Crush” was also nominated for Song of the Year, and is awarded to the songwriters, which include BMI writers Liz Rose and Lori McKenna.
Other multiple nods go to Kenny Chesney and Miranda Lambert, who each received four nominations including, for Chesney: Entertainer of the Year (a category which he has won four times); Single of the Year for “American Kids”; Album of the Year for The Big Revival; and Musical Event of the Year for “Wild Child.” Lambert took her third Entertainer of the Year nomination along with nominations for Female Vocalist (for which she is a five-time, consecutive winner); Musical Event, featuring Little Big Town, for “Smokin’ and Drinkin’”; and Music Video of the Year for “Little Red Wagon.” Lambert is the most awarded female in CMA Awards history with 11 wins and 38 nominations.
