BMI Writers Take 66% of 2013 American Music Awards
Fans nationwide showed their love for Broadcast Music Inc. songwriters on November 24, 2013, at the 41st Annual American Music Awards, where they awarded by popular vote two thirds of the evening’s trophies to BMI affiliates.
The women writers of BMI proved themselves a force to be reckoned with, taking home the two biggest honors of the evening. Rihanna was celebrated with the inaugural AMA Icon Award and Taylor Swift won Artist of the Year for the third time, as well as Favorite Album for Red and Favorite Female Vocalist in both the Country and Pop categories.
Other BMI wins included Macklemore & Ryan Lewis snagging both Favorite Artist and Favorite Album in the Rap/Hip-Hop category, Florida Georgia Line’s collaboration with Nelly, “Cruise,” earning Single of the Year, and Imagine Dragons beating out some big names for Favorite Artist in the Alternative Rock category.
