BMI’s Alison Smith and BMI Songwriters Honored at Billboard’s 2023 Women in Music Awards
BMI was very proud to see EVP Distribution, Publisher Relations & Administration Services, Alison Smith, honored at Billboard’s 2023 Women in Music Awards ceremony, held on Wednesday, March 1 at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater. Smith was recognized in the WIM 2023 Rights Group for her achievements leading BMI’s record-breaking distribution and administrative services and for implementing a newly accelerated distribution schedule that reduces the time between performances and royalty payments.
Many BMI songwriters were also singled out for their powerful contributions to contemporary music. Rapper/songwriter Doechii received the Rising Star Award. Reggaeton legend Ivy Queen was given the Women in Music Icon award. Atlanta-born rapper/songwriter Latto took home the Powerhouse award. Chart-topping singer/rapper/songwriter SZA, whose album SOS has spent ten weeks at No.1, won the Woman of the Year award, while Rosalía was honored with the first ever Women in Music Producer of the Year award.
Beyond the accolades, the ceremony featured incredible performances, including explosive renditions of “Persuasive” and “Crazy” by honoree Doechii, a stirring rendition of “Lottery” by Latto, and much more.
Congratulations to all our honorees!
