Posted in News on May 21, 2013

Broadcast Music, Inc. highlighted its commitment to education and support of songwriters with its panel, “BMI Presents Music 101: Songwriting,” held May 9 at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York. The panel, open to all but curated for New York University students, was moderated by entertainment attorney, David Beame, and featured insightful commentary on the business of songwriting from manager Tanya L. Brown, BMI songwriter Jared Cotter, entertainment attorney Nova Perry and Songs Publishing’s Senior A&R executive Greg Johnson.

The panelists spoke on a wide range of topics including the difference between an administration and co-publishing deal, the art of networking and the complexities of song splits. A Q&A session concluded the event, allowing students, many of whom are budding scribes, to ask more personal questions on strengthening their songwriting acumen. Also in attendance were BMI’s Samantha Cox, Assistant Vice President, Writer-Publisher Relations; Brandon Jones, Associate Director, Writer-Publisher Relations; and Calvin Rosekrans, Associate Director, Writer-Publisher Relations.
