BMI blues-slingers accounted for 91 percent of the 2011 Blues Music Awards nominations, announced yesterday. 2010 Blues Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award honoree Buddy Guy proves there’s more where that came from, leading the list of nominees with five nods including B.B. King Entertainer and Album of the Year for Living Proof.

2010 B.B. King Entertainer winner Janiva Magness will vie for that crown again, as well as three other awards including Album and Contemporary Blues Album for The Devil is an Angel Too, as well as Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year. The Mannish Boys also earned an Album of the Year nomination, along with two other nods. Joe Louis Walker garnered three nominations as well, including B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, and Super Chikan rounds out the strong list of strong contenders for the B.B. King Entertainer trophy.

Song of the Year nominees include Buddy Guy’s self-penned album title track “Living Proof”; “Please Mr. President,” co-written by Bruce Iglauer for Guitar Shorty’s Bare Knuckle; Karen Lovely’s “Still the Rain,” written by Dennis Walker; and “Rained All Night,” written by Steve Gomes for Tad Robinson’s Back in Style release.

Derek Trucks, Nick Moss, and Paul Oscher all claimed three nods each.

The Blues Music Awards are produced by the Blues Foundation. The Memphis-based non-profit organization, which is dedicated to the past, present and future of blues music, also recently announced the selection of its first-ever permanent home. The Blues Foundation will move into its new headquarters in downtown Memphis March 2011.

The 32nd Blues Music Awards ceremony is slated for May 5 and will be broadcast live on Sirius XM’s B.B. King’s Bluesville. For more information about the 2011 Blues Music Awards and the Blues Foundation, visit blues.org.
