Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney Lends Her Support to Songwriters

Posted in News on January 14, 2016

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY-12) (@RepMaloney) has joined lead Democratic cosponsor Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY-8) (@RepJeffries) in supporting H.R. 1283, the Songwriter Equity Act of 2015. The bill, introduced in March by Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-9) (@RepDougCollins), continues to gain momentum on the Hill as it garners the support of Members of Congress from around the country. Congresswoman Maloney is the Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee and serves on the House Committee on Financial Services, where she is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises. She also serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The Congresswoman’s support is welcome news to BMI affiliates in New York and across America. Tweet your thanks for her support at @RepMaloney.

If passed, the SEA will protect the rights and royalties of music creators, making it vitally important that Members of Congress hear from their constituents in their home states so that they, too, will speak up on your behalf. If you have not already done so, please make your voice heard by contacting your Congressional Representative and Senators via BMI’s online SEA tool at www.bmi.com/advocacy.
