Emmy Nominations Celebrate BMI Composers

Several leading BMI composers will vie for coveted trophies during the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards, slated for Sunday, August 29. Edward Rogers earned a nomination for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music in recognition of his theme for Syfy’s series Warehouse 13, as did Jason Keaton for his work on FX’s Justified. In the Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics field, Brad Hatfield received a nod for his song “How Lovely to be a Vegetable” from the FX series Rescue Me, along with Carter Bays and Craig Thomas for their collaboration “Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit,” which was featured in the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother.

Songwriters Hall of Famer David Foster garnered a nomination for Outstanding Music Direction, which celebrates Foster’s musical direction of his Christmas special with Andrea Bocelli. David Downes (IMRO) also earned a nod in the Oustanding Music Direction field in recognition of his work on PBS’s Celtic Woman: Songs from the Heart, as did Rob Mathes and Rob Berman, who were tapped for their work on the Kennedy Center Honors, and Dave Pierce (SOCAN) for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony.

Blake Neely’s work on HBO’s lauded The Pacific was tapped in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Miniseries, Movie or Special field, as was Alex Wurman’s music for HBO’s Temple Grandin and Lawrence Shragge’s (SOCAN) score for Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation When Love Is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story. Composers Michael McCuistion, Lolita Ritmanis and Kristopher Carter also share a nomination for Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which received a nod in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category.
