The appreciation for film and television music in Spain is quite extraordinary! Today, Michael, Kristopher and I shared our music, video clips and stories with our fans here at PlayFest. It was an honor to have the opportunity to connect with the people that know our music. It was really fun for me to meet in person a couple of Facebook friends, who have been collecting soundtracks (including ours) for years, and with whom I have had nice communication this past year thanks to social media.

Throughout this week there have been many conversations over tapas, ranging from the ever-popular debate over who is a better superhero - Batman or Superman - to which of our masters was/is the ultimate film composer…? I have never understood the reason for an ultimate winner in either scenario, but the debate can get quite spirited, especially after midnight!

Before today’s event, I mentioned to Sergio (one of the main organizers of the festival) that I was planning on sharing a clip from Justice League, the “farewell Hawkgirl” segment. Did he know this scene? Sergio replied: “Do I know it? Are you kidding? Do you know how many times I have watched that episode?” Sergio’s response put yet another lump in my throat - a lump that has been in my throat pretty much ever since the day David Doncel Barthe, Sergio Rivas Ortiz and Oscar Rivas Ortiz arrived at my home in Studio City to meet with the three of us, all decked out in superhero shirts - superheroes from our shows. This was humbling, deeply moving, without pretense, and just plain fun!

The vibe here in Úbeda, with a backdrop of historic, romantic Andalucia, where the joy of life is practiced and not analyzed, where the art of a meal is all about savoring each and every moment, where families seem to enjoy spending time with one another and the elderly are revered…it is clear that culture - be it art, dance, music, or in our case, film and television music - is also deeply loved and cherished in the community. Someone halfway across the world is listening. Today, as we met with our fans - our friends - I say thank you. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity.
