Indie Spotlight: Lucette
Lauren Gills, better known by her stage name, Lucette, is a Canadian singer who describes her sound as “country-infused dream-pop.” With two albums already out, Rolling Stone has praised Lucette’s music for its “melodic sensibilities…that avoid the rootsy clichés of Americana music.” Following the release of her debut album, Black is the Color, she toured with Sturgill Simpson and found her music featured in Netflix’s Nanette, WeTV’s South of Hell, and the CW’s The Vampire Diaries. The LP’s single, “Bobby Reid,” has received over five million streams on Spotify, and she has been featured on tracks by Fifth on the Floor and Scott Mackay. Lucette’s 2019 sophomore album, Deluxe Hotel Room, was produced by Simpson, who gave her the instruction to “sing it like you mean it.” Having toured the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., Lucette continues working on new music and is scheduled to perform at Canada’s Pigeon Lake Music Festival in July.
