Indie Spotlight: Twin XL
Following years of running into each other at random gigs across the country, full-time songwriters and producers, Cameron Walker-Wright, Stephen Gomez, and John Gomez, all found themselves at the same L.A. house party in early 2017. It was on that fateful night that the trio made the decision to spend a day together in the studio, giving way to the creative brainchild known as Twin XL.
Having already found success separately—Walker-Wright is part of the synth-pop band Nekokat and the Gomez brothers rose to international fame in The Summer Set—the three came together to create their own anti-pop sound of glistening retro synths, catchy basslines, and memorable melodies sang by Walker. They have released two singles on Spotify, “Good” and “Sunglasses,” while also writing and producing for other artists such as All Time Low, Lindsey Stirling, and Life of Dillon. Their music has also been featured in commercials and trailers for Disney’s Christopher Robin and ABC’s Lucifer.
Twin XL is putting the finishing touches on their debut EP as they promote the music video to “Sunglasses” and play secret shows around LA. The as-yet-untitled EP is described as a balanced dichotomy of bright, summery vibes with dark and mysterious undertones. The trio is paving their way in the music industry, turning one night out at a party into a nostalgic and distinctive musical sequel of anti-pop glory.
