Indie Spotlight: Tei Shi
Having lived in Argentina, Canada and the United States, it’s safe to say that Valerie Teicher, better known by her stage name Tei Shi, has an eclectic, worldly pop sound. Her first track, “M&Ms,” gained her considerable notoriety in the blogosphere, including heavy praise from tastemaker Gorilla v Bear. She then dropped her debut EP, Saudade, crafted with producer Luca Buccellati, and jumped on festival slots and a sold-out headlining tour. Tei Shi isn’t just out on her own; a collaboration with English indie rock band Glass Animals titled “Holiest” scored a number 1 spot on Hype Machine. The world is waiting on her next EP, a project to be released in April 2015, which will contain the latest single, “Bassically,” a club-ready dark dance track that has logged more than one million streams online in a matter of months. Her SXSW showcase will no doubt have the audience grooving to her dreamy electronic-pop sounds.
