Indie Spotlight: Valerie June

Posted in News on February 15, 2013

A singer-songwriter who creates self-described “organic moonshine roots music” is worth a listen, which is why Valerie June is a playlist essential. Valerie stands apart from genre restrictions through her blend of folk, soul and blues—a timeless nod to quality songwriting. Influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton and more, Valerie’s self-taught musical skills shine in her debut album, Pushin’ Against a Stone, most of which was recorded at The Black Keys’s Easy Eye studio in Nashville. With rave reviews at last year’s SXSW and a collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer John Forte on single “Give Me Water,” there’s no doubt that Valerie June’s career will continue to soar.
