Indie Spotlight: Dead Times
Los Angeles based trio Dead Times routinely lists Marvin Gaye and J Dilla among their influences. The seemingly incongruous pairing works though, and helps dissect what exactly is happening in the experimental R&B tunes the three have been churning out the past few years. Sultry vocals soar above dirty, danceable beats in a way that few groups in the future R&B movement have yet to master. With more recording in the works, they’ll have everybody grooving by the end of 2014.
