Joe Louis Walker Leads BMI Nominees for 2010 Blues Music Awards
BMI artists, songwriters and musicians garnered the majority of 2010 Blues Music Awards nominations, which were recently announced. Joe Louis Walker leads the list with five nods, including Album and Contemporary Blues Album of the Year for Between a Rock and the Blues, Contemporary Blues Male Artist, Guitarist, and Song of the Year for “I’m Tide.” James “Super Chikan” Johnson also garnered a slew of nominations, including B. B. King Entertainer and Traditional Male Blues Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for “Fred’s Dollar Store,” and Traditional Blues Album of the Year for Chikadelic.
Candye Kane will also vie for B. B. King Entertainer of the Year, as will Tommy Castro. Kane is also up for Contemporary Blues Album for Superhero and Contemporary Blues Female Artist, while Castro also earned nominations for Contemporary Blues Album and Male Artist, as well as Band of the Year, with the Tommy Castro Band. Duke Robillard was also tapped in four fields, including Traditional Blues Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for Stomp! the Blues Tonight, Guitarist, and Band, with his Jumpin’ Blues Revue.
Derek Trucks nabbed three nominations including Rock Blues Album of the Year, while the acclaimed Chicago Blues: A Living History, featuring BMI heavyweights John Primer, Billy Boy Arnold, Billy Branch, and Lurrie Bell, was tapped for Album and Traditional Blues Album of the Year.
Presented by the Blues Foundation, the 31st Blues Music Awards ceremony is slated for May 6, 2010 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, TN. For more information, please visit www.blues.org.
