Lawmakers Speak Out in Support of Songwriters

Posted in News on May 8, 2014

Congressman Jim Cooper (D-TN) (@repjimcooper) has joined the lead Democratic co-sponsor, Hakeem Jeffries (@RepJeffries), in support of H.R. 4079, the Songwriter Equity Act of 2014. A long time advocate for music creators, Cooper has also co-sponsored other legislation in support of songwriters and has said, “I am a strong supporter of intellectual property rights and rights-holders and believe that intellectual property laws need reevaluating when significant new technologies reach the marketplace.” A bi-partisan bill, the SEA was first introduced by Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) (@RepDougCollins) back in February. Click here for more information on how this important legislation will benefit songwriters, composers and music publishers.
