60’s icon Gary U.S. Bonds took center stage at the VA1 Tourism Summit held recently in Norfolk, Virginia. Bonds, who grew up in Norfolk, regaled Richmond journalist & social entrepreneur Kelli Lemon with stories about his musical journey and performed some of his legendary hits in front of a large audience of Virginia hoteliers and tourism professionals. Bonds had a slew of chart-topping songs in the ‘60s including “New Orleans” and “Quarter to Three” as well as a smash hit in 1980 with “This Little Girl of Mine,” a song penned by his friend Bruce Springsteen. The BMI songwriter, now 83 years old, continues to tour with his band, performing in venues across the country.
