Legendary BMI Songwriter Gary U.S. Bonds Brings His Unique Style to Virginia Tourism Conference
60’s icon Gary U.S. Bonds took center stage at the VA1 Tourism Summit held recently in Norfolk, Virginia. Bonds, who grew up in Norfolk, regaled Richmond journalist & social entrepreneur Kelli Lemon with stories about his musical journey and performed some of his legendary hits in front of a large audience of Virginia hoteliers and tourism professionals. Bonds had a slew of chart-topping songs in the ‘60s including “New Orleans” and “Quarter to Three” as well as a smash hit in 1980 with “This Little Girl of Mine,” a song penned by his friend Bruce Springsteen. The BMI songwriter, now 83 years old, continues to tour with his band, performing in venues across the country. The VA1 Tourism Summit is presented by the Virginia, Restaurant, Lodging and Travel Association and features panels and sessions focused on travel and tourism in Virginia.
