‘Passing Strange’ Receives Top Honors at 53rd Annual Drama Desk Awards

Posted in News on May 22, 2008

The 53rd Annual Drama Desk Awards honored the year’s best Sunday, May 18 in New York City. Leading BMI Tony Award nominee Passing Strange garnered top honors for its creative hive, including Outstanding Musical. Co-creators Heidi Rodewald and Stew accepted the award, while Stew, who also stars in Passing Strange, took home the prize for Outstanding Lyrics. The Broadway smash defied convention and enraptured critics and fans alike through its rock-infused music.

Additional honorees included Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening. Created and written by Gerard Alessandrini, the hilariously offbeat production earned Outstanding Revue accolades.

The prestigious BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop won a Drama Desk award in 2005/6 for Nurturing, Developing and Promoting New Talent for the Musical Theatre.
