SongHall Kicks Off Winter Seminars in New York

Posted in News on February 3, 2009

The Songwriters Hall of Fame will offer a free seminar Tuesday, February 3, from 6 until 8:30 p.m., featuring music industry veteran Eric Beall. Beall will discuss a selection of the strategies featured in his new book, The Billboard Guide To Writing and Producing Songs That Sell, and will field questions from attendees during a post-discussion Q&A session. While this Songhall Networking Group Meeting is open to public, books will be available that evening at a discounted price for SongHall members and affiliates.

The year’s first wave of workshops is also scheduled for February and March. The first series, SongHall Writers Workshop A, is an eight-session series that will meet on Wednesdays February 4 through March 25 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Shelter Studios’ Penthouse (244 West 54th St., 12th Floor [Broadway & 8th Ave]). The course aims to strengthen the aspiring songwriter’s skill set and bring up-and-comers closer to the music industry through workshop sessions with hit songwriters and industry professionals from publishing, music licensing and a&r fields. Guests will include Breaking Records Music’s Bernadette O’Reilly, SongHall Music Business Instructor Marcy Drexler, Atlantic Records Vice President of A&R Steven Lunt, Zomba / Jive Creative Director and songwriter David Gray, and songwriters Martin Briley (Celine Dion) and Dana Calitri (Daughtry). Pre-registration for Workshop A is required, and all relevant information is on the downloadable application. To download the application, please click here.

The second workshop, dubbed The Songwriter in the Recording Studio, will take place on one information-stacked day, Saturday, March 7, from 10 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Planet Studios (244 West 54th St., Suite 800A [Broadway & 8th Ave]). Instructor David Greenberg will lead participants through intricate recording techniques which boast practical real-world applications for songwriters.
