Posted in News on June 10, 2016

Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ-12) (@RepBonnie) has joined lead Democratic cosponsor Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY-8) (@RepJeffries) in supporting H.R.1283, the Songwriter Equity Act of 2015. The bill, introduced in March by Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-9) (@RepDougCollins), continues to gain support on Capitol Hill, and Congresswoman Watson Coleman’s cosponsorship is welcome news to BMI affiliates in New Jersey and across the country. Congresswoman Watson Coleman serves as the Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Management Efficiency. She also sits on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

If passed, the SEA will protect the rights and royalties of music creators, making it vitally important that Members of Congress hear from their constituents in their home states so that they, too, will speak up on your behalf. If you have not already done so, please make your voice heard by contacting your Congressional Representative and Senators via BMI’s online SEA tool at www.bmi.com/advocacy. Tweet your thanks for Congresswoman Watson Coleman’s support at @RepBonnie.
