Songwriter Equity Act Gains New Support for the New Year
BMI affiliates in California and across America will be pleased to hear that Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-CA-26) (@JuliaBrownley26) has joined lead Democratic cosponsor Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY-8) (@RepJeffries) in supporting H.R. 1283, the Songwriter Equity Act of 2015. The bill, which was introduced in March 2015 by Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-9) (@RepDougCollins), continues to gain momentum on the Hill and the Congresswoman’s support is welcome news. Congresswoman Brownley sits on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where she serves as the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Health, as well as the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. If passed, the SEA will protect the rights and royalties of music creators, making it vitally important that Members of Congress hear from their constituents in their home states so that they, too, will speak up on your behalf. If you have not already done so, please make your voice heard by contacting your Congressional Representative and Senators via BMI’s online SEA tool at www.bmi.com/advocacy.
Tweet your thanks for Congresswoman Brownley’s support at @JuliaBrownley26.
