BMI Celebrates the Next Class of AWFC Board Members
BMI would like to congratulate and thank our stellar female composers for their tireless work within the Alliance for Women Film Composers. Founded in 2014 by BMI composers Laura Karpman, Miriam Cutler, and Lolita Ritmanis, along with Chandler Poling of White Bear PR, the AWFC strives to raise visibility and create opportunities for female composers in the industry. During her two-year tenure as President, BMI composer Starr Parodi, a staunch advocate for the organization, has continued that important work by introducing several landmark initiatives that have enabled aspiring female film, TV and visual media composers to flourish and learn from composers like Parodi who have broken ground for women and want to see others do the same.
Parodi, who has completed her term as President, will continue on as a Board member along with BMI composers Stephanie Economou, Mandy Hoffman, Ronit Kirchman, Ariel Marx, Heather McIntosh and Nami Melumad. Joining the leadership of the Board this year are BMI composers Allyson Newman and Esin Ozlem Aydingoz.
BMI acknowledges Parodi, and all of these talented women, for, as Laura Karpman so perfectly put it, “taking their seat at the table.” Bravo!
