Posted in News on May 1, 2007

BMI Atlanta’s Unsigned Urban Showcase presented an exciting lineup of contemporary urban stars and fresh new talent on Thursday, April 19 at E.S.S.O. Hosted by HOT 107.9’s Rashan Ali and producer/songwriter/artist Jazze Pha, over 1,700 music industry insiders and fans packed the club to witness the performances of the unsigned finalists and headliners T-Pain, Fat Joe and Yung Joc. Attendees mingled with industry professionals including top entertainment attorneys, star producers, record execs, artists and representatives of MTV—who flew down specifically to cover the event.

Big Oomp, CEO of Big Oomp Records, took home the coveted Legends of ATL Award, presented by BMI’s Catherine Brewton, DJ Jelly, DJ Montay and friends. This award recognizes an individual’s accomplishments and contributions to Atlanta’s urban music community.

BMI Unsigned Urban Finalists Nikkiya, Young ACE Scrilla, Six20, and Dain Harris took the stage first, performing for a set of elite industry judges. Young ACE Scrilla emerged as the winner, taking home a prize package that includes two 12-hour sessions in Studio A at Tree Sound Studio with an engineer, two tickets to the 2007 BMI Urban Awards in Las Vegas, two Delta round-trip airfare tickets and one hotel room for two nights in Las Vegas during the BMI Urban Awards, two Gibson/Epiphone guitars, photo shoot with photographer Ben Rose, a $1,000 cash prize and a complete style makeover, including hair, makeup and clothing, provided by Seven Over Escape.
