BMI Continues Its Support of the Sundance Institute’s Film Music Program

Los Angeles, CA, June 20, 2013 – Broadcast Music, Inc.® (BMI®), a global leader in music rights management, is proud to continue its support for Sundance Institute’s Film Music program which has just launched its new collaboration with Skywalker Sound to host the Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Labs at Skywalker Sound in 2013 and 2014. The Music and Sound Design Lab for documentaries ran June 3 through June 10, and the session for feature films will be July 10 through July 25.

BMI is a long-time supporter of the Sundance Institute Film Music Program. As a founding supporter of the Institute’s original Composers Labs, BMI has played a critical role in the long-term development of the Lab. Through their involvement, BMI has furthered the careers of many film composers from the Labs. BMI builds on its support of the Film Music Program by producing a composer/director roundtable each year at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, highlighting BMI composers who have scored films in the Festival, as well as their filmmakers.

The Sundance Institute Film Music Program has recently announced and launched a new Lab in collaboration with Skywalker Sound which focuses on both film composing and sound design.  This is the first time Sundance Institute and Skywalker Sound are collaborating to support independent filmmakers and film composers and marks a significant expansion of the Institute’s former Composers Labs to include sound design.

It’s a vital program for the film music community.”

At the Lab, Fellows work with a variety of Creative Advisors, a distinguished group of film composers, sound designers, filmmakers and film industry professionals. The program aims to give composers first-hand experience working on film music and sound design, and to give directors insight into the process, as well.

2013 Lab Participants:

• Documentary series Fellows: Kathryn Bostic, Omar Fadel, Miles Jay and Todd Reynolds.
• Feature Film series Fellows: Jongnic Bontemps, Larry Goldrings, Lucas Lechowski, Heather McIntosh, Vladimir Podgoretsky and Mac Quayle.
• Creative Advisors include composers Mark Isham, George S. Clinton, Harry Gregson-Williams, Thomas Newman, Heitor Pereira, Todd Boekelheide and Osvaldo Golijov.
• Additional advisors include Music Editors Adam Smalley and Scott Johnson; BMI Vice President, Film/TV Relations Doreen Ringer-Ross; Director Allison Anders and Agent Richard Kraft.
