Broadcast Music, Inc.®, (BMI®), a global leader in music rights management, announces the date for the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association’s 19th Annual Key West Songwriters Festival presented by BMI, set for May 7-11, 2014. The Key West Songwriters Festival will again feature many of music’s most beloved songwriters heading to the southernmost point for five days of one-of-a-kind showcases and concert events from its base operations at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon to over 30 different venues across the island.
“Our involvement with the Key West Songwriters Festival is just another way we at BMI demonstrate our full commitment to our songwriters, getting their music exposure in meaningful, unique settings,” said BMI’s Executive Director of Writer/Publisher Relations Mark Mason. “We are honored to have the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association on board to make next year’s festival the biggest and best yet.”
“The Key West Songwriters Festival blends the best in the music business with a lively city that encompasses the Florida experience, and we are thrilled to sponsor the event,” said Carol Dover, President and CEO of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. “This year, we feel the diverse talent lineup will encourage people to take a trip to the state’s southernmost point to hear the stories behind the big hits and go on an adventure to a unique destination.”
The 18th annual Key West Songwriters Festival in May of 2013 shattered attendance records with over 15,000 fans total and sold-out audiences at all of the ticketed events. The Sony Records concert event crowded Duval Street with more than 5,000 people alone.
An official lineup and additional information for the 2014 Key West Songwriters Festival will be announced in the coming months. For updates, follow @BMI on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, and use hashtag #BMIKeyWest.
The Key West Songwriters Festival is the largest festival of its kind in the world. The event’s 1995 debut was small but memorable, featuring Mickey Newbury and Shel Silverstein. BMI stepped in as a partner and sponsor in 1996 and has helped it grow into both a tourist attraction and favorite of island locals. The festival revolves around five days and nights of more than 30 free shows, staged at an array of the island’s most popular drinking holes and hot spots, where live music introduces crowds to the faces, voices and stories behind the songs. Diverse lineups featuring more than 100 top songwriters deliver rare, “Key West-only” moments. More info available at http://www.keywestsongwritersfestival.com.
