A Bowling Green, Kentucky native transplanted to Los Angeles, Mills started pursuing his musical aspirations by pairing contemporary musical resources like loops, samples and beats with a lovingly nurtured passion for the sounds of Nashville and Los Angeles’ own Laurel Canyon, home to legends like Joni Mitchell, Brian Wilson Crosby Stills & Nash. The end results make for a particular brand of warm, dreamily emotive pop first showcased on his first EP, Clashing Thoughts, in 2019 and are further realized on his eight-song 2021 EP, Train of Thoughts. While hearkening back to the sounds that inspired him, Mills’ music feels both contemporary and timeless. Catch him live as he prepares for his first full-length LP.

A LA native with a lifelong immersion in rock ‘n’ roll (she wrote her first song at age 7 and formed her first band at 11), Jesse Jo Stark’s story seeps through her music in a heady, stylized mix of earthy Americana and Hollywood allure that nods to ‘70s rock, classic country, and ethereal pop. Sitting at a cross-section of Mazzy Star, Fleetwood Mac, and Lee Hazelwood, Stark’s cinematic grit was first heard on her early EPs Down Your Drain and Dandelion, and later on singles like “Tangerine” and “A Pretty Place to Fall Apart.” Her full-length debut, DOOMED, is a high-drama movie in the form of an 11-track album, blurring the edge between truth and fantasy. DOOMED (out Sept. 21) features production from Stark herself along with Jesse Rutherford (The Neighbourhood, benny blanco) and Michael Harris (HAIM, Angel Olsen), and contains unique sounds including a box of Hot Tamales as percussion. A single from the LP, “so bad,” is out now.
In the last few years alone, Giovannie and the Hired Guns have grown from a beloved live act to an undeniable new force on the national rock scene. The Stephenville, TX-based band amassed millions of streams almost entirely through word of mouth, thanks in large part to their unforgettable live shows and high-octane collision of rock, country, metal, Latin hip-hop, and la musica norteña. Their 2017 full-length debut, Bad Habits, and their 2020 self-titled follow-up drew much of their power from the eclectic sensibilities at the heart of the five-piece band which includes Giovannie Yanez, Milton Torres, Jerrod Flusche, Carlos Villa, and Alex Trejo. Standout songs from G&TH include “Rooster Tattoo,” “Change,” and “Ramon Ayala,” the latter of which got its name from the famed Mexican singer/songwriter who soundtracked Yanez’s childhood. The guys are currently prepping their third full-length album, due out later this year, and they just released two versions (a studio one and a live one) of their newest single, “I Don’t Mind.”

Having signed with Arista Records, Rosie is currently readying the release of her debut EP, 20 Milligrams of Happiness, and touring with Chelsea Cutler before she hits the BMI stage at Lollapalooza.
Lorna Shore is a New Jersey deathcore band that was formed in 2010. The prolific group has already released several EPs and three albums, the most recent being Immortal, released in 2020. Sweeping, emotive and cinematic, the band’s more recent work returns the fury, heft and stealth of the band’s heavy metal roots, but welds it to a newfound conviction and dedication forged by the creative challenges imposed by the pandemic. Ready to return to the stage, Lorna Shore are preparing their new material, a new album dubbed Pain Remains for an October release.
As Daisy the Great, Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker make folk-inflected indie rock that spans every mood under the sun. After meeting as acting majors at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, the pair bonded during a sketch comedy class and decided to write music together, recruiting band members, Matt Lau (guitar), Bernardo Ochoa (bass), Matti Dunietz (drums), and Brie Archer (additional vocal) along the way. DTG’s first LP, I’m Not Getting Any Taller, dropped in 2019, and their quarantine-born Soft Songs EP was released the following year. In 2021, they released a collaboration with AJR called “Record Player,” which saw the two bands create a new version of Daisy the Great’s early hit, “The Record Player Song.” A brand new album is due later this year, and first singles, “Glitter” and “Cry in the Mirror” are out now.
Specializing in a high-energy sound too frenetic to be kept in any garage, San Francisco’s Taipei Houston is the fraternal duo of Myles and Layne Ulrich. Utilizing a stripped-down arsenal of only a fuzzed-out bass and drum kit, the brothers kick up a furious brand of high-octane rock that invokes nods to classic hard rock through envelope-pushing alternative and all high-volume points in between. Their cover of “Eleanor Rigby,” as one example, turns that mournful single into a high-impact jam owing more to vintage Black Sabbath flecked with Black Flag than the regal pop of Beatles. Since re-locating to Los Angeles, Taipei Houston have toured all over California, played SXSW in Austin and toured England and Ireland. Their explosive debut LP is due later this summer.

With music full of funk, rap, and bratty rock swagger, binki is here to have some fun. The 23-year-old musician, who gets his stage name from a nickname he’s had since he was six, released his first single, “Marco,” in 2018. His subsequent singles, “Wiggle” and “Sea Sick,” made their way through the blog circuit, and he began opening for acts like Still Woozy, BENEE, and Johnny Utah. Binki takes inspiration from the deep-catalog tracks of Pharrell Williams and Ye, and songs like “Landline” and “Heybb!” continue his habit of erasing genre boundaries and establishing himself as an expert in exhilaration. His most recent EP, 2021’s MOTOR FUNCTION, is available now.

Sam Austins’ music occupies an uncharted middle-ground somewhere between edgy alternative and = R&B, a blend of styles that makes this Detroit native beguilingly difficult to categorize. It’s that quality that informed Austins’ debut album in late 2021 on Atlantic Records, Homelesstar, a bold coming-of-age opus about never quite fitting in. Now based in Los Angeles, Austins has been sharing his music on stages with Vince Staples, Post Malone and SirChloe.
