February 2022
Dear Songwriter, Composer and Publisher,
I hope 2022 is off to a great start for you and your loved ones. On behalf of the entire BMI team, we’re excited for your continued success this year and all the incredible new music you’ll create. As always, BMI is committed to continuing to provide the best possible service to you by protecting your copyrights, growing your royalties, and safeguarding the professions of songwriting and composing.
This distribution kicks off our new royalty distribution schedule, which we hope will be helpful to all of you. As a reminder, the new schedule includes payments each calendar quarter, every February, May, August, and November. As previously mentioned, this means that your payments will be slightly accelerated, with royalties delivered one to two months faster from performance to payment than with our prior royalty distribution schedule. To receive your royalties even more quickly, please sign up for direct deposit, if you haven’t already.
In addition to your regularly scheduled royalties, this distribution includes the following Internet Audio sources for those who are eligible: digital fitness service Hydrow for first quarter through second quarter 2021; retro payments for Tik Tok for first quarter through fourth quarter 2020; and new source Ultimate Guitar with payments for first quarter 2020 through second quarter 2021. On the Internet Audiovisual side, those eligible will see payments for VUDU for third quarter 2017 through second quarter 2018; Fandango Now for first quarter through third quarter 2021; and Redbox for fourth quarter 2017 through third quarter 2021.
Once again, we’re very proud to have so many affiliates to congratulate for their outstanding industry achievements: our GRAMMY nominees, Oscar nominees, Latin GRAMMY winners, UK Americana winners, Annie Award nominees, Golden Globe nominees, Hollywood Music in Media winners and nominees, SCL Award nominees, BAFTA nominees, and our Premio Lo Nuestro nominees. All of you are making an amazing impact with your phenomenal creative work across genres. Kudos also go to our affiliates with music in films that premiered at Sundance. You can check out our video panels for the festival here, featuring Common and Patrick Warren discussing music for the film Alice, and director Amy Poehler and composer David Schwartz on making and scoring the documentary Lucy and Desi.
We’re very much looking forward to BMI’s Latin Awards and Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards in March, as well as our stages and events in Austin at SXSW. In the meantime, enjoy our Spotify playlist in honor of Black History Month and celebrate some groundbreaking music.
Sincerely,
Mike O'Neill
President and Chief Executive Officer
