Sweet Success: BMI Celebrates ‘Honey Bee’
BMI toasted the team behind Blake Shelton’s four-week no. 1 hit “Honey Bee” at a shindig co-hosted by BMI and Warner Music Nashville at the latter’s offices on September 8. Written by longtime friends Rhett Akins and Ben Hayslip, the tongue-in-cheek ballad is the reigning CMA Male Vocalist of the Year’s fourth consecutive no. 1 single and the ninth of his career. Akins and Hayslip have now both written six songs recorded by Shelton, including no. 1 hit “All About Tonight,” which they penned with frequent collaborator Dallas Davidson. Together, Akins, Hayslip and Davidson are known to many on Music Row as the Peach Pickers.
