BMI saluted two of Music Row’s most in-demand songwriters on Monday, October 3. Luke Laird and Rhett Akins penned Rodney Atkins’ characteristically down-home no. 1, “Take a Back Road,” during their very first co-writing session together. The smash became the seventh career chart-topper for both of the writers, who are crafting country music’s contemporary sound. Akins is responsible for the latest singles from Luke Bryan, Craig Morgan, and Justin Moore, while Laird’s work by Miranda Lambert, Chris Young, and Eric Church is currently climbing the charts.
