July 17, 2013 Several Broadcast Music, Inc. composers recently participated in the weeklong International Film Music Festival in Córdoba, Spain. Also known as the Festival Internacional de Musica de Cine, the festival was held from June 23 to June 30, and included Q&A’s, film screenings, workshops, concerts and galas, as well as the GoldSpirit Awards ceremony.
On June 29, the Best of Film Music 2012-2013 concert featured live performances of scores from the past two years, including music from BMI composers Alexandre Desplat (Argo), Alan Silvestri (The Croods), Danny Elfman (Oz the Great and Powerful) and Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3). The evening also featured the GoldSpirit Awards.
On June 28, the festival hosted its first Elmer Bernstein Award Gala, where Marco Beltrami was honored. BMI composer Peter Bernstein conducted a tribute to his father, Academy Award-winning composer Elmer Bernstein, which was followed by a 60-minute concert program devoted to the film music of Beltrami.
On June 27, a second Best of Film Music 2012-2013 concert featured music by Academy Award-winning BMI composers Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Adoration, Being Julia and Shattered Glass) and Rachel Portman (Emma, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Hart’s War and Never Let Me Go), as well as Peter Bernstein (The Ewok Adventure). The “Women in Film Music” panel also took place on June 27, featuring BMI composers Rachel Portman and Miriam Cutler, along with Beth Krakower of CineMedia Promotions. The panel was moderated by BMI Vice President of Film/TV Relations, Doreen Ringer-Ross.
